Carson City issued the following announcement on August 16.
Sheriff Ken Furlong is opening the doors of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office for nine (9) consecutive Wednesday nights to host the Fall 2021 Citizens Academy enabling citizens to have a better understanding of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. This opportunity is open to all citizens 18 years of age and older and geared to our Carson City citizens. You will be required to submit an application and pass a background check.
Sheriff Furlong is committed to having a strong partnership with the citizens of Carson City, the community at large, and keeping our community a safe, great place to live.
Each academy session will open with a question and answer period with Sheriff Ken Furlong. Each department of the Sheriff’s Office will be teaching a session over the 9 weeks. We will have a tour of the Detention Center, on-site visit to the Communications 911 Dispatch Center, speakers from Patrol, Crime lab, Evidence, Investigations, the Special Enforcement Team, Gang Unit, DUI/Traffic regulations, Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse, Search & Rescue, the NHP Troopers, the Sheriff’s Office K-9’s demonstration, and an on-site SWAT demonstration.
Sessions will start September 22nd and run thru November 17th on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Ormsby Room at the Sheriff’s Office, 911 E. Musser Street. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for coffee and sign in.

Applications must be received by Friday, September 10th. Space is limited by available seating and any possible Covid Restrictions.
