Alumni Spotlight: Nursing Graduate Sylvana Zambrano

Sylvana

Pima Medical Institute-Las Vegas recently issued the following announcement.

Sylvana started her healthcare career when she was still attending high school. It didn’t take her long to realize working in a hospital setting was exactly where she wanted to be. Learn how Sylvana continued her education after earning her Patient Care Technician certificate by also earning her associate degree in Nursing. Her story is below.

“My senior year of high school I attended East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). At the age of 18, I began working in a hospital setting and knew then I wanted a career in the medical field. I wasn’t quite ready for an intense nursing program, so after meeting with an advisor at Pima Medical Institute, I chose their Patient Care Technician (PCT) program. This eight-month program provided exposure to a variety of healthcare procedures, enabled me to move up into a job in the emergency room at my hospital and gave me the perfect foundation for transitioning into nursing.

After researching several other schools, I chose Pima Medical’s Nursing program because it had everything I was looking for; a quick admission, smaller class sizes and a fast-track program.

I appreciated that most of my instructors offered to stay late or provide resources to help me. They prepared me for my career and to this day, I hear their voices in my head as I attempt procedures. Today, I’m a full-time RN at Cardon Children’s Medical Center. I have obtained a certification in the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing (APHON) to provide advanced care to pediatric oncology patients and administer chemotherapy and biotherapy and I am currently enrolled in a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) program.

I am so grateful to Pima Medical and my instructors. A year ago I was struggling to get through school, and today, I love working my three night shifts and I’m living my dream! I recommend Pima Medical to everyone. It was the best decision I ever made!”

Like many of our graduates, Sylvana accomplished so much since graduating from Pima Medical Institute. It just took that first step to get started. Together, we can create a pathway to career success that works for you.
