WNC Awards Scholarship to First Baby of 2022

Western Nevada College recently issued the following announcement.

Western Nevada College added a new member to the Wildcat family this week — and he’s not even a week old.

As the first child born in 2022 at Banner Health in Fallon, Theodore Amorsolo James has been awarded a full academic scholarship through WNC’s Foundation.

Theodore is the second son of Roberto James and Brittney Amorsolo of Fallon. They welcomed Theodore (7 ½ pounds and 19 ½ inches long) into their family at 5:26 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2. His older brother, Leon James, will turn 2 next month.

“It’s a good time,” Brittney said. “It’s been a rollercoaster, but we’re happy as long as the kids are happy.”

The two-year scholarship was part of a gift basket that Banner Health presented to the new parents earlier this week.

“It definitely gives us a helping hand and a big opportunity as well,” Brittney said. “Knowing that this scholarship is in place makes us very grateful and we are looking forward to the future and our children’s futures.”

It is the first time that WNC has presented a scholarship to the first baby of the new year in Fallon. Two years ago, WNC provided a scholarship to the first born of 2020 at Carson Tahoe Health.

“We are excited to make a difference in the life of someone so young,” said Foundation Executive Director Niki Gladys. “The Foundation has transformed many lives through student scholarships. This gift will serve as a goal, as well as an opportunity, to plan for a career that best interests Theodore.”

Since 1971, WNC has been providing life-changing higher education to students at its three campuses in Northern Nevada. Theodore will have his choice of attending WNC in Fallon, Carson City or Minden, or online when he’s ready for his college education around 2040.

“Welcome to the Wildcat Family, Theodore!” said WNC Director of Fallon Campus & Rural Outreach Jessica Rowe. “WNC Fallon is delighted to have you join our community, and we are thrilled to support you toward your bright future!”
