City of Fernley recently issued the following announcement.
The City of Fernley is a partner in the Western Nevada Broadband Initiative, a network of public and private organizations working to expand internet access and build a stronger digital infrastructure in urban and rural communities across the region.
The mission is to ensure that every home and business in western Nevada has access to affordable, adequate, and reliable high-speed internet in order to fully participate in a digital economy and society. Connectivity has been identified as a cornerstone to business resiliency, education opportunities, financial literacy, access to employment and health care through telemedicine.
The Initiative will give elected officials, businesses, and the public accurate data, to determine broadband speeds. This information will support future broadband expansion grants and projects across western Nevada.
We hope you can help our region be counted and be connected at www.nevadaspeedtest.org.
The Nevada Speed Test may be performed on any device that has an internet or cellular connection and takes less than one minute to complete. No personal information will be collected. Repeated speed tests are encouraged during the one-year initiative to better capture variations in internet speeds and collect more statistically valid data.
