Information on Storey County flood status including emergency status, sandbag locations and active response.
1. EMERGENCY STATUS
Due to the need for emergency teams to assess the current and future flood repairs and damage from the Atmospheric River, Storey County has partially activated its Emergency Command Center. Additionally, to support the efforts and to secure access to federal resources for the response, the County Commissioners have signed a Declaration of Emergency today, March 10, 2023. These measures are to support the residents and the community.
Fortunately, due to the collective county response and support, officials are stating this will not affect the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry taking place in Virginia City tomorrow, March 11. County personnel have worked closely with the Virginia City Tourism Commission to ensure the event lives up to its name.
SANDBAGS
Sand and sandbags are at Lockwood Fire Station 74, Mark Twain Community Center, Highlands Fire Station 72, and at the Ice-House property immediately east of Public Works Department at 130 Toll Road in Virginia City. Arrivals must bring their own shovels. Each bag should be filled with three to four shovels of sand. The bag may be tied closed or the remaining flap may be folded and tucked beneath the filled bag. Residents and businesses must fill and place their own sandbags. Disabled and other residents in-need may reach the Sheriff’s Office for sandbag assistance at 775.847.0959.
