The Carson City Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit is hosting an introductory Barks & Bandages event intended to help prepare dog owners for pet emergencies. The topics will include recognizing symptoms of internal bleeding, heatstroke, toxin ingestion, allergic reactions, rattlesnake bites, and gastric dilatation-volvulus or “bloat.” The fundamental purpose of the event is to train dog owners on what to do or not to do during an emergency.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office recognizes that pet companions are family members. During rough times we rely heavily on the comfort our pet companions provide. Knowing how to care for your pet during emergencies can help save your pet’s life. Barks & Bandages will include minor wound care, how to address pad burns, vomiting, and diarrhea. After the session there will be a Q&A opportunity.
In order to provide hands-on training, the class size will be limited to 20 participants. Participants will not be allowed to bring their dog. Participants must be ages 18 and older. To enroll for Barks & Bandages please sign the release of liability waiver and upload to the online form.
